American Jew Stands Up for Railroaded Muslim
Since the 9/11 Reichstag Fire and the anti-Muslim pograms it unleashed,
Muslims around the world have been asking, "Where are the Jews? Those who
have suffered understand sufferering, and thereby extend their
hands--right?" The only answer, for the most part, has been a silence deader
than Auschwitz at 3 a.m. in midwinter. From a Muslim perspective, it looks
like the majority of American Jews have been extending their hands in only
one direction: Upward in a Hitler salute to the Bush-NWO regime. Muslims
believe that Jews have an influence over the US media that is wildly
disproportionate with their 2% of the population--and there appears to be
some truth to this belief, though just how wildly disproportionate that
influence is remains open to dispute. So when the media won't report the
real story of 9/11, many Muslims (and others) assume that this is the result
of some kind of "Jewish conspiracy."
Every time an American Jew stands up to question 9/11 and defend its Muslim
victims, this anti-Semitic paranoia diminishes. As more and more Jews speak
out on 9/11 and the anti-Muslim pograms, it becomes more and more clear that
Jews are not marching in lockstep behind the fascists. On the contrary, Jews
are "like everybody else only more so." Jews, like all of us, are capable of
great good and great evil. If the noble religion of Judaism has been
hijacked by power-mongering nationalists, that certainly wouldn't be the
first time that a great religion has been deformed by the ignorant. In the
end, it may be brave American Jews like Gary Goodman, along with leaders
like Barbara Boxer, Russ Feingold, and the hero and martyr Paul Wellstone,
whose defense of the Constitution will undo the coup and force the NY Times
and Washington Post to report the truth of 9/11.
Gary Goodman: You are a patriot and a hero. God bless you.

/smaller>To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing a letter in support of Fawaz Damra. As an American-born
Jew, I feel especially responsible for the need to use my voice and
my person and my liberty to extend a hand to those whose voice is stifled,
and to oppose injustice at every opportunity. I fear that in today’s America
this makes me not a patriot, not a hero, but a traitor, an enemy
of the State. This is not the America I learned about in 2nd/smaller>
grade when I recited The Pledge of Allegiance, nor in high school civics
classes.
I cannot say whether my deep sense of justice and mercy comes from being
Jewish or from being American or from being Human or from being Me or just
from Being a Creation of God, as are every one of us. I have no reservations
that the case of Fawaz Damra revolves around matters of deep
injustice.
Punishing a man – and his family – for technicalities, minor paperwork
discrepancies, by applying major disruptions and injury, is an
abomination to the ancient axiom that punishment should fit the crime.
But everyone is aware of the "secret" that Damra’s real crime
is not paperwork – that’s just the sting – the real crime is his
harsh and angry statements, and his opposition to very unhappy and unjust
political situations. Statements he made over TEN YEARS AGO, and has since
renounced many, many times. Also, he is being punished for associating with
persons who may have been sideways associated with other persons later
deemed to be de facto criminal organizations. In reality, this was
an ex post facto conviction, which is (or was) prohibited by
the U.S. Constitution.
This easily makes ALL of us potential criminals -- the things I might have
said, the people I might have known, in 1995.
Damra is no risk to anyone. He is a man of conscience, and we have
hugged in solidarity for the cause of justice and peace.
Punishing any person (on a technicality) for free speech is the
horrendous nightmare of a totalitarian state. However, I think the
authorities already know that Damra is no risk, and no criminal.
Rather, the War on Terror and the PATRIOT Act requires a few trophies and
scapegoats to make it seem worthwhile, and to set an example. The
example is this: fear the government. (In America, in principle, it is
the People who are Sovereign and the government which is subservient, and
the sovereignity of the People to seek and expand their Liberty is said to
come directly from God.)
Damra /fontfamily>
is a religious man of God, who has made friends and alliances within BOTH
the Christian and Jewish community in Cleveland. He should not be
banished at all. At very least, if the grinding "wheels of justice" cannot
be halted, then Damra should be allowed ample time to make
appropriate arrangements./fontfamily>
The expected punishment for Damra is especially acute since
deportation may put Damra’s physical existence at risk. It is not
farfetched that Damra may be subject to severe punishment beyond his
sentence, unending political harrassment, future arrest on "suspicion", even
torture. This is an affront to everything America supposedly stands
for … and that pains me. I’d really like to live in an America that stands
for the principles she preaches.
Torture IS a very real risk. The Israeli government has long overtly
advocated and justified both torture and assassination, anywhere it has
reach. (Technically, torture and
summary execution is illegal in Israel. Practically, the courts
typically stretch the truth to find that whatever happened was not
torture or that assassination was justified by security considerations --
even when it is Jews who are victimized by the State.)/smaller>/fontfamily> /smaller>
Teenagers and young children are not off limits for killing. People with
little or no connection to military resistance, but who are mere
political and social activists (if they are effective) are often the very
people targeted by the Zionist authorities and Secret Police for "special
treatment". The very people who work unceasingly for equitable and just
solutions, for understanding, for fair compromise, who are willing to Forget
grievous past injury if it will lead to a permanent cessation to the
conflict, these "moderates" are often the ones picked on the most. That
seems to be specifically because they threaten an end to the business
of conflict.
In Israel, the Haaretz newspaper can publish sarcastic and bitter rebukes
about A Final Solution to the Palestinian Problem, using "Holocaust words",
but in America such talk about Israel is nearly verboten.
My point is not to rebuke the State of Israel but to raise the
alarm that reckless deportation is not only unjust and unfair, but also
potentially very dangerous and inhumane.
I pray that Mr. Damra and his wife Nesreen and
family are all treated well, and that the Court and Immigration
officials exercise the American spirit and ethic to do the decent thing, and
not just put a rubber stamp on the tyrannical schemes of others./smaller>/fontfamily>
(If my own words and opinions
seem distasteful or disrespectful, let me hasten to say that these words are
mine and are motivated by love for America and love for justice, no
disrespect intended, and should not in any way reflect on the kind heart of
Imam Fawaz Damra.)/smaller>/fontfamily>
/smaller>
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of
the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one
Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all./smaller>/fontfamily>

Faiths Gather in Prayer
By Eileen Kelley
Enquirer staff writer
Abdel Siyam of Clifton (back) greets Nasser Z. Sumra of
Florence during a peace vigil at the Islamic Association of
Cincinnati mosque in Clifton Heights. More than 300 people attended
the service Thursday night, which included prayers and words of
encouragement from people of many faiths in response to the bombings
there Tuesday night.
CLIFTON HEIGHTS - They vowed
to go about their daily lives and not let the bombs - detonated just 46
hours earlier - shatter their faith in God and their community.
Thursday evening, strangers of all ages and religions joined
Muslims gathered at the Islamic Association of Cincinnati in a show of unity
among people, regardless of their faith.
Just before the day's last call to prayer, 38 male Muslims
entered the first floor of the Clifton mosque and prayed. Within 15 minutes
after the prayers were said, an additional 300 men and women joined the
Muslims in the mosque for an interfaith prayer vigil.
The turnout was well beyond what anyone expected - only 60
seats had been set aside.
"It is very heartwarming here, my brothers and sisters,"
Mohammad Shamma, chairman of the Islamic Association of Cincinnati, said
near the start of the one-hour vigil, which included prayers and words of
encouragement and support from Buddhists, Christians and Jews.
On Tuesday night, two pipe bombs left outside two doors to
the mosque blew out windows and a door and knocked out heavy masonry within
the foundation.
No one was injured and no arrests have been made, but the
shock from the attack has been difficult to shake, many at the vigil said.
Just before Thursday's 7:30 p.m. prayers, Saleha Hansbhai,
24, of West Chester, stood outside a boarded-up door to the mosque and bowed
her head.
She wanted to cry, she said.
"I've heard of this happening around the world and in other
countries, and then it affected me. But now that it has happened here, now
it is just so very close to home. ... I'm really taken aback by this. It's
really very sad. I just keep thinking, who could have the heart to do this?"
The FBI is investigating the bombings as a possible hate
crime or act of terrorism. Agents were guarded about the details of their
investigation Thursday and would say only that the public and other law
enforcement agencies are providing tips. Fragments from the two bombs have
been analyzed, FBI agent Michael Brooks said.
The FBI on Thursday added $15,000 to the reward pool,
bringing it up to $20,000; the Council on American-Islamic Relations put up
the first $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the bombers.
The FBI has sent out a call to the Muslim community, asking
them to be extra vigilant and to report anything suspicious. Reports also
have been sent out nationwide.
"We cannot stop what we are doing," said Amtiaz Ahmad, who
worships at the mosque. "One of the things that help you get past this is to
continue to go about our daily lives."
Still, the bombings have sent shivers throughout the Muslim
community, here and nationwide.
"Everyone around has noticed," said Inayat Malik, president
of the Islamic Education Council. "And we are thankful to our creator that
we are living in a city where hate doesn't get any refuge."
