Mr. Barrett,

I read about your comparing Bush to Hitler on Yahoo news. Apparently, only people who live in the middle of nowhere and without credentials are allowed to have these kinds of views. It is so much easier to write them off as wacko conspiracy theorist.

The article says that the governor (D) and his challenger (R) both believe you should be fired and the legislature has denounced you. Good for you!!! At least someone is speaking out about the wrong direction this country is moving. Universities are SUPPOSED to be an open area where ideas are explored and it is up to the student to accept/reject them on the basis of their own beliefs or logic. However, if you don't toe the line you risk your career. Freedom does have a price for some of us.

These globalist dictator want-to-be's will go to unconscienable lengths to reach their goals. Of course no true red-blooded American wants to think our own government would orchestrate 9/11 but there are too many little things that don't add up. Americans are replicating the mindset of the Germans of the 1930's. There were a lot of well educated and hard working people in Germany at that time but that didn't stop the Nazis from coming to power.

Thank you for standing up and stating your beliefs however un-popular they may be. True freedom in action!!

Remember, BIG BROTHER is watching you AND me!!

Dear Kevin,

I just finished reading an article about you on CNN. I have never read your essay, however I was horrified to read all the criticzims you are receiveing abour your opinion.

How dare the state get involved to remove the funding for your class and how dare Governor Doyle and Mark Green become so involved to try to discredit you and control what you teach.

I only wish that while I was in college I had a professor challenge us to think outside the box instead of thinking like them and really argue issues that most people do want to discuss. Not all of life is pretty and we need to challenge people to fight for their freedoms and opionions. The example of what has just happened to you proves that we do not have the ideal, perfect government we are taught about as children.

Our government should not be trying to get you fired or somehow hide your essay. The real question is what makes them so scared about your essay to react this way? Perhaps it is too close to the truth.

I hope your class this semester is going well and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Professor Barret,

We are all entitled to our opinions, but common sense needs to be part of our decision making when we choose actions such as you have. I am sorry to hear you linked our President to Hitler. That’s right, I said “our President.” You may not like him, but you need to remember he is the leader of the world’s greatest (and most powerful) nation.  To be frank with you, I am sick of people who bash our government. I would bet you if we stopped taking action and left it into somebody else’s hands, America would not exist. The American government and military seems to be the only country with the guts and power to take a proactive step in protecting their citizens and bettering global security.  My point is this, although you are a professor at a university, you probably don’t know the other half of what is going on in today’s world.

Please take my advice, and remember to use discursion and get the facts before you make such a statement.

Thank you,

Matt

Professor Barrett -

I apologize for calling Allah stupid in my e-mail below.  It is untrue and was uncalled for.  Please accept my apologies.

Mark

Dear Mr. Barrett -

As you are a professor at the University of Wisconsin, I have read with interest your theory that 9/11 is a big lie.  You are certainly entitled to that belief.  It is, however, important that you know that the theory of the Christian Crusades is also really a big hoax, perpetuated by Moslem infidels.  How do I know that?  I know that in the same way that you know that 9/11 is a big lie.  I also believe that the difference between Allah and Hitler is that Hitler was stupid and evil, Allah was just plain stupid. I think it would be appropriate for you to teach your class at the University of Wisconsin about "The Big Lie of The Christian Crusades," so that they will be really informed about that, too.

Kevin,

If you were to fall this Winter and crush your skull on pavement, stairs or some other third object, I sincerely doubt the world would miss you.

1. I don't think it would be much of a difference anyway, as your logic and reasoning already seem flawed beyond repair.

2. You have envoked Godwin's Law, you've lost the big debate. It's time to pack your bags and slink back to your drug-induced hippy hermit's abode (like the slug that you are.)

3. You've had your 15 minutes of fame. While I agree that all politicians have their agendas, so do  professors who espouse mentally unstable conspiracy theories. I don't know which is worse, since I certainly don't believe or trust either, but I think you have more of a chance of turning into a psychopath.

4. This has nothing to do with being a Muslim and absolutely everything with you being a complete dumbass.

P.S. - This is not a death threat, I'm not that way and you're not worth that. It's just one man's opinion. I think of all people, you can respect that.

Mr. Barrett,

You don’t know me but my name is Lazlo and I live in Colorado.  I’ve recently read of your article on the 9-11 attack (thanks to the press slamming you) and the suggestion that the US could have been behind the whole thing.  I am not advocating that I agree with the idea, but I am certainly suggesting that the fact our own government could have done so is not beyond reason.  More over, having the courage to stand up and suggest that the US could have possibly been WRONG about something is definitely something which I’ll give you credit for.  Everyone who lives in our country knows that our politics and the way in which we interact with the rest of the world is pretty screwed up, thus having the courage to stand up and actually state it as such is commendable.  True, it is NOT a popular idea to claim that the US (or at least its government) could actually be the bad guy, but then such things aren’t said because they are popular, they are however said because they need to be said.  I for one feel it is long past time that we as American people start looking long and hard at those that run our country and make them accountable for their actions AND their lack of intelligent actions in dealing with everything from the terrible state of our economy to the pathetic way we deal with basic things like care of the elderly and child care, not to mention the way we deal with the rest of humanity.

Again, thank you for taking to tough road and stating the opinion many have long suspected and few were willing to voice.

And, I find it amazing how a person like yourself can attempt to make a statement of a change and come under so much fire from everybody, i.e. the government and others.  You know it reminds me of Abe Lincoln and MLK, two people who attempted to make changes in the world but were silenced before they were able to complete their goal.

Although I do not agree with the theory that the 9/11 attacks were

planned by anyone other than Al Qaeda I think that it's very important

that people with different views be allowed to express their theories

freely without fear of recrimination.  You will no doubt receive countless

I received an email from ConservativeAlerts.com requesting all to fire a

communication denouncing recent statements and lectures by controversial

university instructor Barrett.

Truth is I believe in the basic freedoms granted in the United States,

including freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The type of actions

historical regime Barrett refers.

I may not necessarily agree with what Mr. Barrett claims, but I do

I happened to read the story today pertaining to the governor and his challenger calling for you to be fired. I currently serve in the United States Marine Corps. and if I were to see any professional educator fired for voicing a controversial belief or idea, practically raping him of his own rights we are so proud to have in America and making the classroom even more politically correct, taking away our free thought and making it text book regurgitation, I would have to take time to consider what exactly it is I am serving for. I love this country dearly and believe fully in our ability to express ALL thoughts and opinions. I firmly believe that if you are not constantly making yourself aware of the actions of your government and are not constantly challenging your government than your are not doing your duty as a civilian. Furthmore, if you're not pissed off, you're not paying attention. Just one Marine's opinion. My commendations for your lack of intimidation in standing your ground and making your voice heard.

Dear Kevin:

Congratulations on your victory for free speech!

While I don’t necessarily subscribe to your theory regarding the Bush Administration’s role in the 9/11 attacks, I believe your ability to air this view and invite challenge is one of the hallmarks of our country.

For so long now, I have seen those who dissent branded as unpatriotic, immoral, or – at its worse – possibly drug off to secret prisons and tortured.

I’m sure you get many emails amid this flurry of attention, especially while being used as a distraction from the real issues which need to be considered during the impending mid-term elections.

I just wanted to let you know that I admire your courage and the strength of your convictions, and also applaud the sanity of the administrative officials who didn’t buckle under the political arm-twisting aimed at firing you for – ironically - what is the most fundamental of American traditions: the ability to speak your mind and question your government.

This is an ideal which, self-servingly, the clandestine Bush administration has abandoned.

Hello Professor,

I am a cold war veteran and an independant voter. My

work allows me to travel around the world and I get

many different views of American politics from

non-Americans.

My main studies were international relations and

German and if you have ever discussed politics in

German, you know it usually ends up with a lot of

pounding on a table.

I am currently in Paris working with many people from

different backgrounds including people from the United

States. Many of the Europeans I speak to compare

President Bush every day to Hitler. This essay that is

causing all the problems is not in any way a unique

thought. It is a very popularist idea in all of

Europe.

The biggest piece of evidence to support this is the

amount of propaganda that is coming out of Washington.

The stove-piping and cherry picking would be the

biggest example of actual proof in a Hitler comparison

to President Bush.

Thank you again for your efforts in educating the

American public without pushing an agenda. Below is an

email sent to the chancellor this morning.

Kevin,

Just read about you on Comcast's web page. They tried to make it out that you were forcing students to buy your essay. Just like the Mainstream Propaganda Media!

Congratulations and thank you for the courage you are showing by speaking the truth about the rise of fascism in Germany and today's America. I haven't read your article, but I expect that you are also aware of the parallel between the Enabling Law in Germany in 1933 (giving Hitler dictatorial powers) following the Reichstag fire, and the Military Commissions Act of 2006 (following the WTC tragedy) here giving Bush the same powers. The parallels are uncanny, and yet people still wonder how Germany could have allowed the rise of Hitler! Duhhhhh

I commend you for sticking your neck out. It is people like you that encourage people like me to take action as well. You are not alone. Soon (hopefully) we will all join together and show the blind that they are being led off a cliff.

Mr. Barrett,

As a Native American I am glad to see others confront our totalitarian government, I may not agree with every one of your statements, but I do feel we are on the wrong side of this "war".  I am sickened to see that we support Israel when we should be supporting the Palastinians, they (Israel) are forcing the poor Muslims onto what is essentially a reservation.  If there were more professors such as yourself educating this country's youth, I might have gone to college, but being self educated I know the truth in a sea of deception.  Keep up the good work and keep challenging those perceptions of the sheep.

Dear Professor Barrett,

I just wanted to write to you and say I am very proud of you. I commend you for taking sich a bold stance that even our own congress people and governors don't even have the guts to make a stand against the biggest conpiracy in the World's history. Do you know if it is true that Bush's grandfather, Prescott, was one of Hitler's bankers? I have been seeing some very interesting internet videos  about the conpiracy. For years now I have been trying to communicate the comparison of Bush to Hitler and to see you create  course curliculum and obtain very necessary press exposure made me so happy to know that not all of us are blind and brainwashed by television news and media brainwash tactics. There have been many books written through ancient history indicating the dangers of using propoganda and media to manipulate the mass society views in order to control the world. This is what bush is doing and I have also stated that he is a dumb ass even compared to Hitler where I think even Hitler would be ashamed of Bush's stupidity. Some of the books are very old spiritual books from the Vedic times. People like you make me know that God will work through people like you and me to ultimately somehow save the world through speaking the truth to fight the falsity of Bush's very controlled propaganda. I think some of the smaller bombing incidents in the world(Spain, India etc.) were planned by one of our US intelligence agencies as well. They seem to occur at times convenient to Bush to distract everyone so he can do his dirty work behind the scenes. He is the utter definition of an anti-christ utilizing the Christian religion as the start of his mass propaganda and then extending it to the rest of our coach potato society through the mind control television device. If you have a disribution list, mailing list and any events I can attend I would love to be another supporter within your network of very aware and intelligent people. We need to form our own "think tank" of

truth. You have a very strong supporter here. I live on the NJ shore and if you have any conferences on this topic(especially in NYC) I would like to attend, volunteer and support you and your network. Very refreshing to hear that you are spreading new perspectives. I was shocked that a governor like Jim Doyle and Mark Green are so ignorant. Why are our goverment and congress officials so ignorant to history of Nazi tactics and Bush duplicating them all over again? It is scary because they are in the driver's seat for taking Bush out of office. I am so ashamed of our government but proud of the American people that many of us are aware of what Bush is doing and his ties to a very real and planned conpiracy in order to inject fear in the hearts of our community to get away with going to war for oil among other ego-driven gains. I have always said there are two types of leaders in this world, Leaders who are feared and use fear, and leaders who are loved, adored and followed. Please

let me join your network of very aware people. Your new friend and supporter!! Peace and Love to our world wide human family.........

Thanks!!

Dr. Barrett,

I am a commercial real estate appraiser by trade (20 years in Florida), which has nothing to do with why I am emailing you (other than to let you  know what I do for a living).  I have heard about the organization that you belong to, and am interested in learning more about the organization’s views.  I am decidedly anti-Bush, and while I don’t presently believe that he was responsible for 9/11, I do believe that he is the worst president (by far) in my lifetime, if not the worst president ever (excuse the weak grammar, but you get the point).

I believe that GWB lied about the supposed Iraqi WMDs as a pretext  for invading Iraq.  I believe that he is in bed (together with Dick Cheney) with American oil companies.  I believe that Cheney wants continued involvement in Iraq for personal enrichment (his stock options in Haliburton have increased in value by a factor of 8x since we invaded Iraq).  I believe Rumsfeld is a total hypocrite for receiving $190,000 per year as a member of the board of directors for the European company that designed and built North Korea’s light-water nuclear reactors.  Being a  Florida Democrat, I believe that GWB stole the 2000 election with the help of Katherine Harris (who is presently running for the U.S. Senate and was the Florida Supervisor of Elections in CY 2000). I believe that Ms. Harris should be prosecuted for engaging in election fraud.

I an interested in reading your essay about Bush's involvement in 9/11, and want to know how I can obtain a copy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this overly verbose email.

Dr. Barret,

In response to the article I saw about your essay on 9/11 I felt compelled to write to your Governor. I decided to share my thoughts with you as well. Keep those young minds thinking!

Mrs. Andrews

RE: Kevin Barrett

When I was young I used to hear a lot of people say "I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it." That was the culture I grew up in, that is how sacred I believe the right the freedom of expression is; it's worth dying for. The right to criticize the government was essential to our forefather's thinking in establishing freedom of expression.

I also recall that when I was in college that professors would often say outrageous things. Sometimes they believed them, sometimes they didn't. The point was not to spoon feed minds but to make them work and to think; to create leaders, not sheep. But I guess anyone with a reasonably decent education would realize that. In my opinion an inadequately educated knee jerk reactionary bent on controlling the minds of youth would be the type who would demand that we all think alike. Who would consider any idea dangerous? Ideas are not dangerous; repression of them is. You won't stop the ideas by repressing them. In fact by repressing them and by punishing the people who voice them, you give them power and a certain amount of credibility. But anyone who understands history and humanity knows that. In my experience, politicians are not generally very good in either of those areas, so a lack of understanding of these very basic concepts on your part is not all that surprising.

I think Mr. Barrett is wrong about 9/11. I think he is a bit overwrought with anguish as many of us are at what has happened in its aftermath. I think he is right about the IQ points. And I'm allowed to think that, and I'm allowed to say that, and I'm allowed to write it. If you disagree with me, well, you're allowed to, and I will fight to the death for your right to disagree with me. Politicians rip away at what makes out country special and great and enduring to protect temporary office holders with temporary issues; don't forget that you also tear away at this country and make it less than what it has ever been at any point in history.

I also think that the people of your state should be very afraid that their Governor thinks that evil means stupid. The two don't seem to go together very often; especially when you consider just how much damage Hitler actually did. That was not the work of a stupid man. But when our president says that he will continue to fight in Iraq even if the only "people" backing him up are his wife and his dog; um, sir, I love my dogs too, but have never mistaken them for people, nor have I ever believed they had political insight or views. Nor would I suggest such publicly if I did. But if you think that sort of statement is evidence of intelligence or representative of a man who understands the idea of a government "of the people, by the people and for the people” well, I've just wasted my time.

This is the way our country works: If people don't want to hear his views, they won't sign up for his class or buy his book. If his class is that unpopular, the University will drop it. End of subject. You don't need to censor or call for the termination of anyone. Let the people take care of it, if they feel its needed, and get back to your real job. Let’s hope come election time your voters are wondering why you are minding business that you shouldn't be and what you are neglecting to do while you are censoring others, just as I am. Then again, I was taught to think.

Professor Barret,

Please let me introduce myself.  I am young American of Iranian ethnicity living in Texas(although currently in NY)  Since 9/11, I have become more aware of the great divide between Islam and the Western culture, and how day by day, the misconceptions increase.   I have also realized the significance of voting and becoming politically involved, but that is a different topic.

As you may already know, your essay regarding 9/11 has made headlines all over the internet.  I wanted to see if there is anyway I can get a copy of your essay and/or the material from your classes.  I am extremely interested in your work and would appreciate the opportunity to read some of your papers.

Thank you,

Dear Professor Barret,

I saw  in CNN:

" University instructor likens Bush to Hitler"  I loved it...

"Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies,"

"Hitler had a good 20 to 30 IQ points on Bush, so comparing Bush to Hitler would in many ways be an insult to Hitler."

Beautiful!  I only regret not having access to your full text...

Allow me to congratulate you for your brave position and intelligent conclusions.  I live in Brazil, very far from the USA, and it is difficult for me to understand how the American society took so passively the Government bullshit  since 9/11.

I have discussed this issue with some American journalists through the net, and they do not show any sign of noticing that Bush et caterva created fiction that does not hold. Vaporized aircrafts! Oh lol!

I hope you may not become a victim of the neo-Gestapo ,and that your ideas serve to begin opening América's eyes.

I used to consider your country as The model of democracy, but today, like yourself, I arrived to the conclusion that Hitler was an amateur compared to our good Dick Chenney et caterva, and that America became a nightmare. Yes, because good old George is a fake.  Actor for Actor, I prefered Reagan.... at least he was a pro.

In regards to the following article on CNN.com:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/10/11/instructor.sept.11.ap/index.html

Sir,

I wrote a 10 page letter to the editor on 9/12 about the fact that the U.S. had more to gain from 9/11 than any terrorist group. My wife wouldn't let me send it in for fear of "being put on a list". Later I found my self embarassed and a little afraid to tell a bank teller that I didn't want an American flag bumper sticker. I suddenly realized that I had become afraid to speak my mind and was acutely aware of the judging glances of the people around me.

While I won't go so far as to say I sympathize with the citizens of Germany in the 1930's I will say that I can see how they must have felt and how the easy path for them was to just go along with the crowd. Much the same behavior is evident in America today.

A few years ago I read on a web log (I wish I had saved it) a statement by a Bush supporter: "If I hear anyone compare Bush to Hitler I'll take them outside and kick their ass". I remember thinking that someone should send that guy a nice Brown Shirt.

I commend your bravery and willingness to speak your mind against overwhelming and potentially dangerous odds.

I would like to say, that even though we don't know eachother, I understand the scope of what your attempting to push forth into the American educational system. As a Palestinian American, a lot of slack is given to the Muslim world, and I would like to congratulate you on your efforts. I've read the ideas that you are attempting to convey, and I don't find them as far fetched as the media would like to believe. In fact, they are right along the reasonable line of logic that right-wingers, neo-cons, and the power elite love to deny; and in the process will call you a "liberal hippy". Well your not, and hopefully what your trying to do, by at least giving perspectives outside of the evening news will encourage others to do so.

Thank you, Professor!  I, too, could write a book listing the similarities between Bush and Hitler, and it wouldn't even take much research.  It's time that people in this country are made aware of what's really going on in the world, and that we should learn from history, rather than repeat it.  I know I speak in cliches here, but it's the quickest way of telling you that others share your views and are glad that someone is speaking up.  Students at your university should hear ALL sides of a discussion and then make up their own minds.  How else will they learn?  Should we just feed them Bush-isms or Rumsfeldonian?  That would be a sad day indeed.

Keep up the good work, Professor!

Dear Professor Barret,

Thank you for teaching the next generation about their equivalent of the JFK assassination. I hope there is a message of hope and promotion of political action in your teaching as well. We Americans have learned to expect our politicians to lie, and for there to be a conspiracy or cover-up at every turn. We are cynical for so many reasons. We are overworked and overcommitted and scramble to maintain our lifestyles. We need our young adults to put down their IPODs, stop IMing each other and organize a boycott or a protest, and practice their right to vote (and hope -- demand-- that the vote is counted honestly and reported honestly).

Sincerely,

Judy, mom of a Boston University student who is making his contemporaries aware of what you are teaching your students.

Mr. Farrell:

I am writing to applaude your decision to allow Kevin Barrett to teach his course as he sees fit as long as students can challenge the teachings.

I myself intend to buy the essays if they are available to the general public.  Something in the two short paragraphs reported on CNN.com rang true to me (and to everyone listening to me as I read the CNN story aloud to them), and all of us want to see for ourselves what he has to say -- even if we eventually disagree with him!

To me we all need to be thinking large about our world and our future.  From my perspective, under President Bush our nation has disintegrated right before our eyes, and neither I nor the average American knows what to do about it or even how to THINK about it -- other than to vote and even Lou Dobbs doesn't trust our elections!  Our government is no longer of, by, and for the people of this nation, but rather of, by, and for big business.  The rights of middle class citizens have been stomped on:  Hundreds of thousands laid off so CEOs and officers can get higher salaries and bigger perks, jobs are being outsourced and H1-b visa holders brought in from other countries at lower wages causing countless Americans to lose their jobs and homes.  Illegal aliens are being allowed to stream across our borders unhindered by the federal government to satisfy the cheap labor requirements of the rich multinationals (Bush supporters), and in doing so have taken over entire industries in the U.S., again putting Americans out of work.   Giant corporations not only screw their employees with longer hours, less pay, no health insurance, and even now no weekends off (see the recent story about Wal-Mart!) but also destroy the environment, rip off shareholders with dishonest accounting practices (still!), and under Bush now even write most of the congressional legislation that governs our country!!  The DNC.org Web site list hundreds and hundreds of cases of corruption in the Bush Administration.  And don't miss the PBS documentary by Bill Moyers, "Capitol Crimes" -- the interview at the end is not to be missed!  We've even lost our prestige in the world thanks to President Bush!

And for all this we're NOT EVEN SAFER!  Only 5% of cargo containers coming into our seaports are inspected for even nuclear materials, luggage in the cargo compartments of commercial airliners goes uninspected to this day, making our airlines and airports unsafe.  There are so many things to be worried about today - for me the least worry is North Korea.  This minute -- today's big worry -- is for the millions of Americans who are going to be subjected to identity theft because the IRS is, as of this week, turning over its unpaid tax bills to PRIVATE COLLECTION AGENCIES WITH HARD-CORE CLOSERS -- not the most upstanding people in the world to be handling citizens' personal data!  And why is this happening?  Because there's no money left to fund the IRS for tax collection purposes and THIS IS BECAUSE of the incredible incompetence and thievery going on in the Bush Administration over the war in Iraq:  Look at the $66 BILLION "LOST" in Iraq according ot the OMB, not to mention all the unscrupulous profiteering going on since the war started (read the new book BLOOD MONEY) -- even one of Laura Bush's longtime pals took U.S. taxpayers for $50 million!

So, the comparisons this courageous professor is gingerly trying to advance about this administration is something he should have EVERY RIGHT TO DO!  AFTER ALL, HE IS IN AMERICA, ISN'T HE?  I just hope that he is not shot in cold blood like that Russian journalist for simply trying to tell another side to the story!

Thank you again for allowing Kevin Barrett to speak, even if only for a week!
