The New York City Ballot Initiative is nearing the deadline at the end of July for obtaining the required number of signatures that would allow a referendum to be placed on the November ballot for a new investigation into the attacks of 9/11. You can help by donating money, donating time to gather signatures if you are in the New York area, and by praying for the success of this project. If you know people in New York City, please contact them ASAP and ask them to sign the petition that is available online or to call the hotline number listed at nyc911initiative.org. Several clergy persons are listed in support of the initiative and Bishop Thomas Gumbleton of Detroit, Michigan has agreed to serve on a commission to investigate the 9/11 attacks. If you are in New York City, please ask your clergy to make announcements about this and to stress that this is a moral issue of great magnitude and urgency. We people of faith cannot unwittingly assist others who are intent on nefarious acts by being indifferent to the massive contradictions in the 9/11 story and indifferent to all who have been affected by 9/11. From a Christian perspective, Jesus despised hypocrisy and injustice. We are called to follow those teachings and not just talk about justice but also DO it. The Fellowship of Reconciliation, an organization known for active peacemaking has endorsed this initiative. Please thank them for taking that stand. For more information see www.nyc911initiative.org or www.democracynow.org/2008/6/17/former_senator_mike_gravel_calls_for Thanks for any help you can offer.
